5th-Jul-2008 05:10 am - Rihanna: Premier Artist of the Decade? Say Whaaaaa?
Rihanna & Chris Brown Have Essence

Reigning R&B prince Chris Brown and R&B princess Rihanna perform at the Louisiana Superdome during the 2008 Essence Music Festival on Friday, the Fourth of July, in New Orleans.

Here’s Billboard’s review of dear RiRi’s latest “Disturbia” single: “Rihanna has scored 10 top 40 hits since her career launched in 2005. More staggering, the 20-year-old has four songs riding the Pop 100: top two ‘Take a Bow,’ Maroon 5 duet ‘If I Never See Your Face Again’ just entering the top 40, ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ inside the top 40 after 30 weeks—and now ‘Disturbia.’ It’s safe to say that Rihanna is the premier artist of the second half of the decade, with no signs of wear and tear. This latest is a sort of ‘Thriller’ for partygoers, with multilayered vocals cascading across Ri’s lower register, alongside fun scatting, a la ‘bum bum bi dum bum’ with co-writing (and background vocals) from the irrepressible Chris Brown. Rereleased albums with added cuts have become a tedious trend, but ‘Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded’ is actually worth its weight in platinum. In short order, Rihanna has become the trustworthy ‘it’ girl of our time.’

Thoughts? Do you agree with Billboard's statement that Riri is the premier artist of the last five years? If not, who do you think deserves to wear that crown?

5th-Jul-2008 12:30 am - 'The Simpsons': Denis Leary, Julia Louis-Dreyfus among next season's guest stars
Dreyfusleary_l Does Denis Leary need to be rescued from Bart Simpson? The Rescue Me star will play himself in the Oct. 5 episode of The Simpsons, losing his cool at a celebrity golf event and throwing his cell phone in anger. When Bart finds the phone, he uses it to make prank calls — and even winds up accepting a role for Leary in Brian Grazer's big-screen adaptation of Everybody Poops (yes, Grazer also guests). Meanwhile, Julia Louis-Dreyfus reprises her role as Snake's girlfriend — and this time, she's pregnant! — in the Sept. 28 season opener. (Plot: Homer becomes a bounty hunter.)

In other Simpsons business news, two billionaires — Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos — will lend their pipes to a December installment in which Mr. Burns wins a pro basketball team during a poker game. Notes Simpsons executive producer Al Jean of that episode: "It certainly has the richest cast in the history of cartoons."

MADONNA'S BIGGEST ~SCANDALS~

LIKE A VIRGIN -- Madonna popped out of a wedding cake in a crucifix and puffy white gown to sing her hit at her first appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards in 1984. The album went on to become No. 1 in the U.S. and sell over 7 million copies.

PAPA DON'T PREACH ABORTION CONTROVERSY
-- After singing lyrics, "I've made up my mind/I'm keeping my baby," in 1986, abortion-rights groups praised her (while anti-abortion supporters were up in arms). Madonna called it a "message song that everyone is going to take the wrong way."

POPE AGAINST MADONNA
-- In 1987, Pope John Paul II urged Catholics not to see her "Who's That Girl?" concert in Turin, Italy. The church later boycotted her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour.

HAPPY BELATED 4TH OF JULY, ONTD!

I hope everyone had a great holiday and continues to have an amazing weekend. :)

5th-Jul-2008 01:15 am - The care,feeding and torturing of a artist.
I'm having one of those moments where I think my artwork is crap.
I don't know what triggers it but I get it once in awhile.I'm not saying that usually I get up and think "I'm such a stunning talent" God no.
But usually I'm just so preoccupied with making/finishing whatever I'm poking out to get it out of my system, that I don't care if it's "good" or "bad" or perfect.I don't think any artist gets up and likes their own work.I guess it's because Familiarity breeds contempt. You spend so much time with something and go from it being a literal lump of dirt into a doll or whatever, that it naturally makes you obsesses over the imperfections.
But some unlucky days I get this feeling like my work is just so awful, that it isn't taken serious, that it's not fine art it's just crap. The feeling is paralyzing, because I don't want to even pick up a sculpting tool or pencil because I'm paralyzed by the feeling my work is just awful.
I start thinking about how nothing made with a human hand is really all that great. No matter how amazing a work of art is,it's always just a impostor of something created by nature.
The concept of just being human and how imperfect that is just smothers me sometimes.
I think one of the reasons I'm having such self esteem issues is when I got some of those doll moulds I bought awhile back,I got a few really cool antique mold copies of things like Simon Halbig dolls,I poured a Simon Halbig head, because oddly enough for my own collection I only really like antique dolls. So I was excited to get molds of those type of heads because the only ones that I ever like are always the most expensive antique dolls, people whine my stuff is expensive.Things like a pretty Simon Halbig or Armand Marseille will usually run you about 1,200.00.
I poured the Simon Halbag head mold, and I did the first cleaning on it,and I put it to soft fire it and then I started thinking about how I would paint it,like what colors I wanted the cheeks ect.It started to make me think about how I had never china painted a head to look "natural" and how nervous it makes me to pour things like those antique molds because it's not my mold,so at times it makes you feel like you don't know your way around it,if that makes any sense.
I think some of that set me off.Like I always say I like doing new things, but I hate learning new things. It reminds me of how neurotic I am,because something like that will totally set me off,and make me start obsessing that I'm a failure and how imperfect humans are and it makes me really start to hate the whole world even more, and hate the concept of being a human on earth.
Really stuff like that totally makes me realize how really crazy I am,that something simple like pouring a doll mold will set me off like that.
But I really do hate being a poor, fumbling, feeble human being because no matter what you do you can never get it right.
Stuff like that makes me wonder if I will survive life, well nobody survives life, but you know what I mean, survive to die when it's your actual time.Sometimes I wonder if I will be able to always resist the urge to just jump off a damn bridge.
I don't know how any of us survive life, how do we all bear to live in a world where people are actually excited to see photos of celebrities eating or where you can get sued if you upset a child molester because "they have rights too,or people care about any of the other mediocre crap that people actually care about these days.

Jim Carrey and his long time love Jenny McCarthy took a stroll hand-in-hand on a Malibu beach on the Fourth of July.

The couple obviously keeps each other laughing as they had permanent smiles plastered on their faces. Jim also showed that he hasn’t lost that goofiness about him when he reappeared from the couples’ beach house dawning Jenny’s sexy one piece.

He definitely looks a bit better in the mankini than Borat, but that’s not saying much!

Mandy Moore shops up a storm at Jeffrey and Scoop and then eats lunch at Pastis in New York’s Meatpacking District on Thursday.

The 24-year-old singer/actress then hailed a cab back home and covered up after being asked questions about her recent breakup with Ryan Adams.

“Mandy is one of those genuinely sweet angelic people you wish to meet your whole life,” Ryan told OK! in a statement. “I am grateful for our friendship and how it allowed us both to grow and learn more.”

“Unfortunately I am allergic to paparazzi and have found the best antidote to that sort of nonsense is staying behind the guitar and typewriter, staying close to my support group of friends and band mates and not engaging in activities that prevent me from taking care of myself or others,” he said.

4th-Jul-2008 11:44 pm - tour; day 28. boston and connecticut speakings...
Let me start by apologizing for my sudden usage of capitalization. While I abhor it in every way, I can't get a wireless signal and am updating from my sidekick that is flashing the !, so I must hurry before my battery dies.

Man, the south is coming through for me, kids are coming out in cities where I didn't think anyone would show. Good job southerners. I've eaten many fried foods and I haven't gone running in almost an entire month. My legs feel like mush. I feel slovenly and sluggish. I can't wait to get home and run along the beach while leering at half naked women. Ah, boobs.
Today was a day off and I spent it with a wonderful family who took my little brown ass in and fed me like a tattooed mexican waif. Then a bunch of good kids and I went out for the glory that is olive garden and my guts are paying for it as I type.
Tomorrow is and early speaking at 1pm in vienna, virginia. Afterward, I'm storming georgetown and the capitol building in washington, dc to find old hardcore historic places. Speaking of, I want to be able to cross another thing off of my 'list of things to do before I die' by sitting on the original dischord house steps. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you probably don't know who minor threat is, and if you don't know that, I don't want to know you.

So I finally got a boston speaking, sort of. I'm speaking in boston commons, outside in the stone gazebo. That way we're covered if it rains. See, punk!

I feel good. I feel happy. I feel productive and alive.
Someone said to me the other day, "the only way you're truly living life is when you're traveling." I suppose it could be taken in many different ways, but I'd like to think she meant it in a literal sense. I told someone last night that I don't get homesick on tour because I don't get a chance. I'm too busy moving forward, and that's awesome for a kid who tries not to dwell on the past too much.
So lets write books about letting go. Then lets write ones about closure. Then lets write about growth.
If they like it, cool. If not, well, fuck em. While I have an obligation to those who believe in me to constantly produce better "art" than I did in the past, I write for me. I speak for me. So I can confront, dismantle, overcome, close and continue thrashing through cities and towns and countries with a suitcase full of books, a smile on my face and a crack of sincerity in my voice. Because, "when I rest, I rust."

Thank you to all who I have had the pleasure of speaking at and I'm beyond stoked to see the rest of you. I'm on tour for a little more than 2 more weeks. I would love to meet you.

For dates.

Official Girl is the newest single for Cassie, but it was originally sung by Karina Pasian (up & coming singer signed to Def Jam). 4th-Jul-2008 09:16 pm - Anne Hathaway's Parents Warned Her to Ditch Raffaello
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
You know she's thinking "Maybe I should ditch Chef Boyardee here for an Emily Blunt/Chris Pine threesome?"

It seems that lovely actress Anne Hathaway’s parents tried to warn her what we’ve all come to know is true- her ex-boyfriend, disgraced and recently arrested Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri, was just no good.

Follieri was arrested last week on counts of fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering, and is currently being held under house arrest, with bail set at a whopping 21 million dollars. What have we learned from this, Anne Hathaway? Even though you’re a famous movie star, sometimes mom and dad really do know best!

According to Fox News, Anne Hathaway’s father had told his daughter that she was better off moving out of the home that she shared with Follieri. According to a source, "He and Anne's mother always had their suspicions about Raffaelo."

As of late, it is believed that Anne Hathaway helped the feds in their investigation against her ex-boyfriend, who she broke up with shortly before his arrest. According to a source, "The night before his arrest, she had a tearful phone conversation with him”, which has led some to believe that she regrets her decision to help bring her former man down.

Anne Hathaway has been forthcoming in the past about her love for Follieri. In 2006 the actress told People, "You can say what you want about it, but we just love each other.”

A source close to Anne Hathaway says that the actress has been throwing herself into her work as a means of coping with the shock and heartbreak of seeing Follieri exposed as a criminal. Regarding Anne Hathaway’s demeanor around her co-workers, the source says, Anne didn't mention [the breakup], and people around her didn't ask. She was completely blinded on this one. She loved him and so she didn't see much else until now."

Now that Anne Hathaway’s eyes have been opened, we hope she stays far away from Follieri. Maybe she can even ask her parents to set her up with someone they know, as the duo seem to be in possession of some pretty good instincts.

I switched the old article for this newer one because its a little more detailed

Poor thing I can't even imagine being in her position. I'm sure she must have loved him because they were really serious for four years. Even though she did the right thing I can still see why it would be so hard.

Hannah Montana starlet Emily Osment was featured in the Special Collector's July issue of People. Em spilled on how she likes to spend her free time: 'I'm definitely sporty. One year in school I did track, basketball, soccer, swimming and golf.
I'm such a tomboy. I get along better with guys. The girls focus too much on stuff that doesn't matter and I'm totally like 'Let's go out and play. I don't want to worry about who's dating who.' Miley is like that, too.

Britney befriends Adnan in fear of Sex tape coming out

4th-Jul-2008 10:48 pm - Lost scenes shown from sci-fi classic 'Metropolis'

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - Lost scenes from the sci-fi classic "Metropolis," recently discovered in the archives of a Buenos Aires museum, were shown to journalists for the first time in decades on Thursday.

A long-lost original cut of the 1927 silent film sat for 80 years in a private collection and then in the Museum of Cinema in Buenos Aires, where it was discovered in April with scratched images that hadn't been seen before.

Museum director Paula Felix-Didier said theirs is the only copy of German director Fritz Lang's complete film.

"This is the version Fritz Lang intended," said Martin Koerber, a curator at the Deutsche Kinemathek film museum in Berlin, Germany.

"Metropolis," written by Lang and his actress wife Thea von Harbou, depicts a 21st century world divided between a class of underworld workers and the "thinkers" above who control them.

Soon after its initial release at the height of Germany's Weimar Republic, distributors cut Lang's three-and-a-half-hour masterpiece into the shorter version since viewed by millions worldwide.

But a private collector carried an original version to Argentina in 1928, where it has stayed, Felix-Didier said.

In the 1980s, Argentine film fanatic Fernando Pena heard about a man who had propped up a broken projector for "hours" to screen "Metropolis" in the 1960s. But the version of the film he knew was only one-and-a-half hours long. For years, he begged Buenos Aires' museum to check their archives for the man's longer version.

This year, museum researchers finally agreed and in April uncovered the reels in the museum's archive.

In June, Felix-Didier flew with a DVD to the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation in Wiesbaden, Germany, which owns the rights to "Metropolis." Researchers there confirmed that the scenes were original.

News of the find excited film enthusiasts worldwide.

"This is a movie that millions and millions of people have seen since its release and yet, in many ways, we've never seen the true film," said Mike Mashon, head of the Moving Image section of the U.S. Library of Congress in Washington.

"Metropolis" was reissued in the U.S. in 2002 by Kino International Corp., which owns the rights to distribute the film domestically, Kino's general manager Gary Palmucci said.

Kino may rerelease the new, complete version of the film.

Meanwhile, Buenos Aires' Museum of Cinema is holding its treasure tight.

"The film hasn't left the museum and it won't leave until the city government and the Murnau Foundation decide what to do," Felix-Didier said.

Idk if this'll even get accepted, but as ONTD's resident pretentious German film geek, I AM VERY EXCITE!

4th-Jul-2008 10:13 pm - In light of Fourth of July Festivities... (which is why I'm posting this)
Miley Cyrus

International pop star Miley Ray Cyrus is excited to spend Fourth of July at the Freedom Festival's Stadium of Fire concert in Utah. According to Deseret News:

Miley told reporters: 'I have been to Utah a couple of times. I went on my tour and my friends are shooting some movies up there. And so I've been up there a couple of times, so I'm totally excited. Anytime I can do a show and I have places I have been before, they are always wonderful memories.'

Miley said the Stadium of Fire will be like her own personal fireworks show, even if she'll have to overcome her fear:

"I actually am really, really scared of fireworks so I would always sit in the car. Fireworks scare be so badly, like on my concert tour. Anytime pyro goes off, I'm like crossing my fingers, I really don't like it. But I actually loved going to the fireworks show in downtown Franklin [Tennessee]. I would always sit in the car and watch so I wouldn't have to hear the loud sounds."

4th-Jul-2008 10:10 pm - Amy Winehouse performs to cheers at Rock in Rio music festival southeast of Madrid

Soul diva Amy Winehouse sipped from a glass of red wine and looked a bit unsteady on her feet as she appeared in front of a large audience at the Rock in Rio music festival southeast of Madrid on Friday.

Then, as tens of thousands cheered, she threw off a pair of high stiletto heels in favor of white moccasins, donned a white electric guitar and settled into an intense rendition of some of her best-known songs, including "Rehab."

Winehouse delivered a strong vocal performance accompanied by her octet plus two male backing vocalists.

There was no hint of the controversy that saw the Grammy-winning singer scuffle with a fan at the Glastonbury festival in Britain and show up an hour late looking the worse for wear in May in Portugal.

The singer won five Grammy Awards, including best record, best song and best new artist, in early February, but her musical success has been overshadowed by her tumultuous private life and public struggles with drugs and alcohol.

In June, her father said she developed emphysema from smoking cigarettes and crack cocaine, although her spokeswoman has said Winehouse only has pre-emphysema symptoms.

Once finished at Rock in Rio, she did not stay for an encore and left the outdoor concert venue by helicopter.

Winehouse's manager, Michael Jobson, told national broadcaster RTVE that the singer had looked forward to singing in Madrid after appearances in Portugal and Hyde Park, London.

English band Jamiroquai followed Winehouse on stage, with Colombian pop singer Shakira topping the bill.

The Police, Bob Dylan, Lenny Kravitz, Alejandro Sanz and Franz Ferdinand were all due to perform over the weekend.

Organizers said around 350,000 people were expected to have enjoyed music at the newly inaugurated concert site by the end of the festival.
